A University of Illinois football player is serving a 60-day jail sentence after pleading guilty to drunk driving in Illinois.
Defensive tackle Josh Brent pleaded guilty June 2 to misdemeanor driving under the influence. He was arrested Feb. 21 in Urbana, near the university’s campus.
Drunk Driving in Illinois has Big Consequences…
Court officials say the 21-year-old Brent started serving his sentence immediately after his plea and could be out of jail in 30 days with credit for time served. He also has been placed on two years of probation.
Illinois football coach Ron Zook suspended Brent after his arrest. Zook has said he’ll decide later whether Brent can play in 2009.
Brent’s Illinois DUI lawyer must not have seen a way to get a not guilty verdict.
