Suspected DUI Crash Kills Vegas Woman
Las Vegas metro police said a Las Vegas woman was killed Sunday in a suspected DUI crash at the intersection of Rainbow Boulevard and Flamingo Road.
According to police, the crash occurred at 1:13 a.m., when a truck slammed into the side of a car.
Investigators said evidence at the scene and witness statements indicate that a 24-year-old Vegas woman driving a Pontiac Sunfire was making a left turn from eastbound Flamingo Road onto northbound Rainbow Boulevard during a green light. At the same time, a Dodge pickup truck — driven by 18-year-old Kevin Miranda and carrying a 16-year-old female passenger — was traveling southbound, failed to stop for a red light and struck the left side of the turning car.
Police said both the woman driving the Pontiac Sunfire and the 16-year-old passenger of the truck were taken to University Medical Center. The driver was pronounced dead shortly after arrival; the teen passenger was treated and released.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Investigators said that Miranda had been drinking prior to the crash and failed field sobriety testing. He was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center for two counts of felony DUI alcohol.
Police said the crash marked the 82nd traffic fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction this year.
