New Drunk Driving Study
A new study shows, one in 10 binge drinkers got behind the wheel of a car, the last time they drank heavily, and half of them left from a bar or restaurant.
The reports suggests more effort needs to be made to stop bars and restaurants from serving people after they’re intoxicated.
Experts in the CDC’s alcohol program say binge drinking is a main factor in more than 11-thousand traffic deaths.
However, Donna Finnegan with Finnegan’s Cove in Harrisonburg, Virginia says that’s not the case in her restaurant.
“We have security people around and they are not here to just throw people out. They’re there to walk around, pick up glasses, talk to patrons and when its busy those people are also helping to determine who has had too much to drink,” adds Finnegan.
Finnegan also says if they do notice someone who has had too much to drink they will make sure the person has a designated driver or call a cab for them.
