CMA DUI Checkpoint Tommorow (10/20/08)
The California Maritime Academy Police and Public Safety Department will conduct a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint Thursday in conjunction with the Vallejo Police Department, according to a CMA announcement. The checkpoint will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight at an undisclosed location within Vallejo, according to the announce-ment. It’s part of an effort to reduce the number of people killed and injured in alcohol-involved crashes, said CMA police chief Roseann Richard.
Checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them off the street as well as educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving, she said.
Traffic volume and weather permitting, all vehicles may be checked and drivers who are found to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested, Richard said.
