Preliminary arrest totals were reported by 337 of around 400 participating agencies.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) coordinated the effort.

“It’s clear from the results of this DWI campaign too many people continue to make poor decisions about drinking and driving,” says Capt. Matt Langer of the Minnesota State Patrol. “These poor decisions result in death and injury, all of which are preventable if people choose to driver sober which is why we’ll continue our efforts to deter and remove impaired drivers in 2010.”

Enhanced DWI enforcement efforts will continue year-long in the state’s 13 deadliest counties for impaired driving that accounted for more than half of all alcohol-related deaths and serious injuries during 2006–2008: Anoka, Dakota, Hennepin, Olmsted, Otter Tail, Ramsey, Rice, St. Louis, Scott, Sherburne, Stearns, Washington and Wright.

A DWI results in loss of license for at least 90 days and can cost up to $20,000 when factoring in associated fees and increased insurance rates.

Each year in Minnesota up to 200 people are killed in alcohol-related crashes and more than 35,000 are arrested for DWI.

DPS included the seat belt focus to counter unbelted nighttime fatalities, which are especially prevalent in alcohol-related crashes.

Each year, 75 percent of impaired drivers killed in alcohol-related crashes are not wearing seat belts.

The Minnesota State Patrol arrested 500 motorists for DWI during the campaign.

Among metro agencies, Bloomington Police reported 68 DWI arrests, followed by the police departments of St. Paul (60), Minneapolis (58), Burnsville (43), White Bear Lake (30), and Maplewood (28).

In greater Minnesota, Moorhead Police reported 40 DWI arrests followed by the police departments of Duluth (38), Rochester (37), St. Cloud (31), Mankato (27), Owatonna (21) and Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office (20).

Officers from San Mateo County’s 23 law enforcement agencies made 131 arrests on drunken driving charges over the 10-day period from Dec. 18 to Dec. 27, according to statistics from the California Avoid campaign, the multi-agency effort to catch drunken drivers.

The arrests, all the result of routine traffic stops, represent a 7 percent increase over the 122 arrests from routine stops in the county during the same period a year ago. However, last year there were 37 additional arrests at checkpoints and by DUI strike teams.

San Mateo County’s total represents 10 percent of the 1,291 DUI arrests by 125 agencies in the nine-county Bay Area. The campaign continues until Sunday, Jan. 3.

There were no DUI-related fatalities on San Mateo County roads, according to the Web site, CaliforniaAvoid.org.

The California Highway Patrol is reporting 14 fatalities statewide so far this year, including one in the Bay Area. In six of the deaths, the victims were not wearing seat belts, the CHP said.

On state highways, the CHP is reporting 970 arrests, up 18 percent from last year’s total at this time of 824.

A task force targeting Arizona drunken drivers has netted 1053 arrests in the last two weeks.

The statewide task force Labor Day enforcement started August 21st and ends late tonight.

In a news release, the task force reported 359 people face extreme driving-under-the-influence charges, meaning they had a blood-alcohol content above 0.15.

The task force also reported 119 people who were arrested had prior Arizona DUI convictions.

People arrested in the crackdown so far had an average blood-alcohol content of 0.14, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08.

Ninety-six people under the age of 21 also have been arrested.

Arizona DUIs can be prosecuted in one of two ways: either by one’s driving ability being impaired to the slightest degree as the result of consuming alcohol (or other drugs), or by violating the “per se” law, and having a blood alcohol level of .08% or greater within two hours of driving.

An “extreme” DUI or DWI will be charged where there is a blood alcohol level of .15% or higher within two hours of driving. If you are accused of Arizona drunk driving it will be in your best interest to contact an Arizona DUI lawyer for a free consultation.

A woman and an infant were sent to the hospital following a DUI accident in Fort Myers, Florida.

The suspect, a local attorney, faces charges of DUI, DUI property damage and DUI serious bodily injury. She rear-ended an SUV on US-41 around 1AM this morning. 3 people were in the SUV and one infant, according to police reports.

The infant was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with a critical head injury then flown to Tampa for further medical treatment. One other victim suffered a broken leg in the accident.

When police arrived, they discovered Baker with bloodshot eyes. She admitted she was distracted with checking her phone before the crash. Upon a breath test, Baker was found to have a blood alcohol level of .213%. More than double Florida’s legal limit.

Baker was treated at Gulf Coast Hospital then released to house arrest. She was booked at the Lee County Jail on the three separate Florida DUI charges.

Fort Myers DUI Lawyers

When you are arrested for DUI in Ft. Myers you face a broad range of penalties. Florida DUI laws have some very harsh consequences for a first time offender and of course they get worse with every DUI. For starters if you were arrested for DUI in Florida you only have 10 days to request an administrative license hearing or you could lose your drivers license without being convicted of DUI. A Fort Myers DUI attorney can help you avoid losing your license and perhaps a DUI conviction altogether. Contact a Fort Myers DUI lawyer for a free consultation today.
