A former postal worker lost both her legs, her eyesight and normal brain function when a New York drunken driver slammed into her, pinning her between her mail truck and his vehicle.
Maureen DePrince’s independence was gone. Not long afterward, so was her marriage.
On Thursday, the man who admitted driving drunk and sleepy before he smashed into her was sentenced to five years in prison, although he could be released somewhat sooner for good behavior.
Allen Henry Miller, 31, of Schenectady, N.Y., had pleaded guilty in December to aggravated assault and drunken driving in connection with the July 2006 crash in Ventnor. However, this by no means suggests a first time DUI is to be sneezed at. DUI laws are tough these days and only getting tougher. Remember, one moment could deplete your entire life all because you had to drive drunk! And not to mention the others life you could change for the worst. You may think you could never do something like this because your are ‘extra careful’, but I’m sure Mr. Miller here didn’t plan on not arriving at home that day either. Look at him now.
If you have already been accused of DUI in New York you would be wise to seek the services of a New York Traffic Lawyer.
