South Lake Tahoe Police will conduct two check points for intoxicated drivers during the next eight days.
The Lake Tahoe DUI checkpoints will be held from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Aug. 21 and 27, Sgt. Shannon Laney said in a statement. These nights are designed to heighten driver awareness of DUI’s, the danger they pose to the community and to strongly encourage those who do partake in the Labor Day Weekend celebration to take a cab or designate a sober driver, Laney said.
Extra officers will work on an overtime basis saturating a pre-designated area on the lookout for intoxicated drivers in South Lake Tahoe on Aug. 23, Aug. 31, Sept. 5 and Sept. 6.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
